The Welcome Home Niagara Home Ownership Program Is Back

Niagara Regional Housing is celebrating ten years as administrator of affordable housing for Niagara Region with the return of the popular Welcome Home Niagara Homeownership Program. If you are currently renting and dreaming of owning your own home but don't have the downpayment, this program could make home ownership a reality for you.

Happy Anniversary NRH

As of April 1, 2012, Niagara Regional Housing (NRH) will have been administrator of affordable housing for Niagara Region for 10 years.

Watch this website for details of two exciting Anniversary programs: the introduction of "Ontario Renovates", which offers funding for renovation and rehabilitation projects to improve the living conditions of households in need and the return of our "Welcome Home Niagara" homeownership program, which helps renters become owners.

NRH will also host a variety of events in our communities and looks forward to including our stakeholders and community partners in the festivities!

Housing Services Act Effective January 1, 2012

The Housing Services Act replaced the Social Housing Reform Act on January 1, 2012. In 2010, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing released its Long Term Affordable Housing Strategy and introduced Bill 140, Strong Communities through Affordable Housing Act 2010. This legislation will set a new vision for housing in Ontario and focus on creating a social housing system that will "improve access to adequate, suitable and affordable housing and provide a solid foundation on which to secure employment, raise families and build strong communities."

For more information, view the Housing Services Act, Chapter 6, Schedule 1

The legislation also introduced amendments to the Planning Act and Residential Tenancies Act 2006.

Accessibility

Niagara Regional Housing is committed to reviewing our practices, processes and built environment for barriers to access for persons with disabilities.
